Stabbings highlight need for CCTV cameras in Sunnybank

Member for Moreton Graham Perrett today renewed his call for Brisbane City Council to help improve safety at the Sunnybank pedestrian overpass.
Mr Perrett said the Federal Government had made $300,000 available to install CCTV cameras at the overpass but council had rejected the funding.

"Now we have three men in hospital with stab wounds while Councillor Steven Huang sits on his hands and plays politics with safety and security in Sunnybank," he said.

"I made an election commitment to improve the safety of the Sunnybank community in response to Neighbourhood Watch and wider community concerns about their safety.

"Local police indicated that CCTV cameras and better lighting would help prevent crime on and around the pedestrian overpass but Cr Huang thinks he knows better.

"I am incredibly frustrated and angry that we now have three men in hospital and a man facing attempted murder chargers when we could have done something to prevent this tragedy."

Mr Perrett said Cr Huang now had an opportunity to make right and accept the Federal Government funding for security cameras.

"I hope Cr Huang does the right thing for the sake of all southside residents and businesses," he said.
