Rocklea company wins $70 million defence contract
A Rocklea manufacturing company has won a $70 million contract to supply military trailers to the Australian Defence Force.
Member for Moreton Graham Perrett said under the contract Haulmark Trailers would supply 973 trailers.
"This contract will help create local jobs and provide a significant injection into our local economy," Mr Perrett said.
"It is great to see a local company from my electorate helping provide Army with state of the art trailers while creating jobs for local tradespeople.
"Haulmark has been supplying quality trailers to Defence for over 20 years, and they will continue to provide support for the new trailer fleet for at least the next 16 years."
Mr Perrett said the contract was estimated to create up to 60 local jobs.
"This is part of LAND 121 (Overlander) project, which is a $6.6 billion Rudd Government investment in our Army fleet," he said.
"The new generation of vehicular systems will replace the current trailer capability for Defence and have been purposely designed to operate in conjunction with the G Wagon vehicles, currently being acquired under a contract with Mercedes Benz Australia/Pacific Pty Ltd."
"The signing of this contract is a key step in providing the ADF with a new generation of transport systems that will enhance its mobility and logistics capability."
Mr Perrett said the Haulmark would deliver the first trailers from April 2012.
