Abbott’s axe to broadband plan will risk southside jobs
Mr Perrett said the National Broadband Network was crucial economic infrastructure.
"Young people especially will feel betrayed by Mr Abbott's announcement," he said.
"Without a competitive, fast national broadband network, jobs of the future will be lost to places like Japan, Korea and Singapore.
"Tony Abbott is also threatening the 25,000 jobs nationally that will be supported every year of the National Broadband Network rollout."
Mr Perrett said the Howard Government had 18 failed broadband plans in 11 and a half years which left Australia falling behind most developed countries.
"And after two and half years in opposition they still don't have an alternative broadband plan," he said.
"While Mr Abbott practises opposition for opposition's sake, the Rudd Government is getting on with building the National Broadband Network for all Australians - especially for Moreton.
"Even on Brisbane's southside there are households that still cannot access broadband and this is simply not good enough in 2010."
The first services are due in Tasmania in July and the five first release sites on the mainland have been announced, with work to commence in the second half of the year.
The first building blocks of the National Broadband Network are also being put in place with 6,000 kilometres of optical fibre backbone being laid in regional Australia, already around 500 kilometres has been laid.
