Graham Perrett MP - Federal Member for Moreton

More federal money to fix Southside road black spot

The Rudd Government will provide $300,000 to fix a dangerous Sunnybank intersection, Member for Moreton Graham Perrett said today.

Mr Perrett said the funding would be used to upgrade traffic signals at the intersection of Beenleigh and Gowan roads, Sunnybank, to provide fully controlled right turn phases and extend the turning pockets.

"This is a serious investment in safer roads for local motorists and their families," he said.

"The Black Spot Program is helping to make our local roads even safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, with two of these projects already completed," he said.

"This intersection was recommended for upgrade by a panel of independent road safety experts and will be completed during the course of the 2010-11 financial year."

Mr Perrett said since being elected, the Rudd Government had invested more than $1.8 million to fix five black spots across the Moreton electorate.

"And the good thing about our Black Spot program is that anyone can suggest an intersection or section of road they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade," he said.

"Nomination forms are available from my office. Alternatively, they can be downloaded from: www.nationbuildingprogram.gov.au."
