"Except for two courageous Liberal senators - including Queensland's Sue Boyce - the climate change extremists in the Liberal Party have stopped Australia from taking decisive action on climate change."

Mr Perrett said as one of the hottest and driest continents on earth, Australia's environment and economy will be hit hard in the future by climate change.

"We must take decisive action on climate change for our children, grandchildren and future generations of Australians," he said.

"The Rudd Government's Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is the most effective, responsible way to reduce carbon pollution and help families and businesses make the transition to a greener economy."

The Carbon Pollution Reduction policy is designed to limit the nation's carbon emissions by making polluters pay for the pollution they produce and rewarding those who reduce their carbon pollution.

The Scheme includes direct cash assistance for nine out of 10 Australian households, and low income families are expected to receive 120 per cent of any anticipated costs in direct cash assistance.

"32 countries already have national emissions trading schemes, four other major economies are moving towards emissions trading and 27 states and provinces in the US and Canada are introducing emissions trading.

"The Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme is responsible action and it is in the national interest - it is in the interests of the people of Moreton."
