Perrett urges community to dig deep for memorial fundraiser
Federal Member for Moreton Graham Perrett today urged southsiders to attend a dinner to raise funds for a memorial to Australian Defence Force personnel of Chinese descent.
Mr Perrett said all money raised from the dinner on Thursday 10 December would go towards construction of the Chinese‐Australian war memorial in Sunnybank.
"Our special guest is Minister for Defence Senator John Faulkner," he said.
"Senator Faulkner has more than 20 years experience in the Australian Parliament and has
served as Minister for Defence since June 2009.
"A silent auction and raffle prizes will be available on the night."
Mr Perrett said the Chinese‐Australian war memorial project would honour the past and present involvement of Chinese Australians in the Australian Defence Forces.
"This project is being driven by RSL representatives as well as leaders from the southside's
Chinese community who meet regularly with me to plan this memorial.
"This is not just about erecting a monument. It's about educating school children and the broader community about the stories of service and sacrifice of Australian Chinese in the armed forces," he said.
